The Kirklees Bar Code is an integrated social marketing campaign. The campaign collates a series of interventions and weaves them alongside marketing activity in an attempt to reduce crime and disorder in and around the night time economy.
This page aims to provide partners and practitioners with information about the campaign and access to Bar Code resources.
Marketing the Bar Code
The marketing campaign has been developed through close working with senior Police and Partnership officers and a series of focus groups.
Applications include large format projections onto key buildings, extensive outdoor advertising, promotional activity within the night time economy, targeted messages through schools and colleges, and direct mail to known offenders. An extensive PR campaign has also been implemented.
Policing the Bar Code
The interventions planned as part of the Bar Code Campaign include high-visibility policing during peak offending times, the launch of the Huddersfield and Dewsbury Alcohol Control Zones, street angels, taxi-marshals, the Responsible Retailers scheme, Licensee Mentoring, Best Bar None and the close working with problematic premises.
